James Collier was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  He received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax in May 1989, and he received his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Dalhousie University Law School, also in Halifax, in May 1999.  While studying for each degree, and during the years between his receipt of the degrees, James worked as a commercial inshore fisherman sailing out of the home port of Shad Bay, Nova Scotia.
James was admitted to the Maine Bar in May 2001.  He has worked at Smith and Collier, P.A. since it opened its office doors on May 1, 2003.  Prior to that time, he worked with Chad Smith at the Bar Harbor law firm of Fenton, Chapman, Smith & Kane, P.A.

James specializes in the areas of real estate transactions, land use and zoning matters, municipal law, estate administration, and acting as a qualified intermediary for 1031 like-kind exchanges.
