Joan Beck is a partner in Cassel Brock’s Securities Group. She practises in the area of corporate and securities law with an emphasis on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions transactions.

Prior to joining Cassels Brock, Joan practised law at another major Canadian law firm in the areas of corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. Her previous experience also includes working for the Ontario Securities Commission in the Corporate Finance Branch. During this time, Joan was involved in prospectus and application work as well as takeover/issuer bids and mergers and acquisitions. She also worked on policy matters relating to shelf prospectuses, the Multijurisdictional Disclosure System, cross-border offerings, continuous disclosure requirements for foreign issuers and the Uniform Securities Legislation Project.

After completing her LL.M. at New York University, Joan worked for Shearman & Sterling, a major New York-based international law firm, both in its New York office and in its Toronto office.

Joan has taught securities law courses at the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law and the University of Windsor Faculty of Law.
