Michael Kennedy is an attorney licensed to practice law by the States of California and Michigan and is permitted by the Law Society of Upper Canada to provide U.S. legal services in Ontario as a Foreign Legal Consultant. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court.  Michael formed Ingenuity Counsel Incorporated as a way to provide U.S. legal services in a flexible, accessible and affordable manner for Canadian companies and individuals.

Michael acts as legal counsel to businesses and their owners with respect to various corporate matters and business transactions, including tax and business planning, business formations, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contract negotiation and drafting, trademarks, employment contracts and franchise and other distribution arrangements.

Prior to forming Ingenuity Counsel, Michael was a Foreign Legal Consultant at the McTague law firm in Windsor, Ontario, serving as its U.S. counsel.  Michael also served as General Counsel for an international financial services group based in the Cayman Islands, with offices in Miami, Florida; Hong Kong, PRC; and Montevideo, Uruguay.  The group included an A.M. Best rated Cayman Islands insurance company, a Cayman Islands licensed trust company and a FINRA broker dealer.  As General Counsel, Michael handled the international firm’s entry into the U.S. broker-dealer market, reorganization of its corporate group, expansion in the Cayman Islands, A.M. Best rating process, regulatory and compliance affairs, in addition to day-to-day legal, employment and public relations functions.

Prior to serving as General Counsel, Michael practiced law for several years with highly respected law firms in Fresno, California and Detroit, Michigan.  As an associate attorney with these firms, Michael handled various business matters for companies and entrepreneurs in the medical, farming, manufacturing, financial, insurance, marketing, investment, real estate, B2B services, franchising, sports and entertainment fields, among others.

Michael is a graduate of Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts (J.D.), Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC (LL.M. in Taxation, with distinction) and the University of Windsor (Bachelor of Commerce in Honors Business Administration).  Michael, born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, resides with his son, Easton, and two dogs, in Tecumseh, Ontario.  Michael enjoys running, baseball, travelling and golf.  Michael has completed four half marathons, most recently the Johnny Kelley Half Marathon in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
